make every date nice.”
Boxpark!!! One of the coolest places in one of the trendiest places in London!
Situated at Boxpark (Unites 44-45) Rudie’s recently opened its second site 2 years after its successful opening of its first restaurant in Dalston. The place brings casual Jamaican dining to Boxpark, which naturally makes it quite busy at lunchtimes and during the evenings (especially weekends)…
We were really looking forward to reviewing this place and with an open mind & empty stomachs we went in looking for some delicious Jamaican food…we were not disappointed!! ?
First impressions:
▪ Interior & Exterior is nice and relaxed
▪ Friendly staff ?
▪ Chilled out place where you can grab a quick bite
▪ Music is not too loud
Our first impression was that this place is for quick and delicious Jamaican food – it delivered on both accounts! ??
Since the place can get busy you may need to queue but from what we saw when were there the staff dealt with customers quickly and efficiently.
The Menu
The Shoreditch branch is Jamaica Bites inspired, which is reflected in the menu.
From the staff we found that the boxes (Jerk-it-up, Tardiness and Jah Love) are very popular, especially around lunch time.
Next on the menu are the Real Jerk which goes in chicken or pork! Other items on the menu include the very deliciously looking Boss Burger. We were also told that the wraps were on demand during lunch breaks.
On the side you can try the Boston Wings, Pork Ribs, Calamari and Peppered Prawns. There are also rice n peas, fried plantain and jerk fries.
The drinks menu has the Rum (rum punch), Jamaican Red Stripe Beer and soft drinks (Ting).
After carefully going through the menu beforehand we knew we won’t be able to order everything that we wanted because it would have been soooo much.. so we stuck to the main and most important things, ie The Jerk Chicken!! As the saying goes –
“When you go to a Jamaican restaurant you oughta try the JERK CHICKEN”
The Jamaican half chicken was crispy and succulent. Traditionally marinated in Jamaican herbs is deliciously spicy and very soft:
However, it may come across as pricey (£13) ?.
It needs to be noted that those prices are normal for Boxpark compared across and also it is worth it as the chicken really is delicious ?
The wings were well cooked and tasted good. We expected the wings and the chicken would be spicier!! This is Jamaican FOOD for God’s sake!!
///DISCLAIMER ////(*In other Jamaican places we found it difficult to enjoy our food as it is so hot, but here we genuinely enjoyed everything as per our spice threshold*)
The calamari were nice and crispy. You can taste the freshness- well as fresh as you can get in London ?
The plantain with Appleton rum sauce was great. Definitely recommend it.
Throughout the night we were thinking what a great place this is for a first date. The atmosphere is very relaxed and the food is nice. Everything was ready in under 10 min, although they were getting busier and busier.
All in all we enjoyed the food and the ambiance of the place. We would definitely go back if only to try the wraps and those amazing sweet potato fries…
Excellent review 🙂
